Position Summary

As the Director, you’ll lead a dedicated team responsible for managing operations in residential life, business operations, facilities management, conference services, marketing, and information systems. What You’ll Do:
  • Strategy, Policy, and Procedures Development & Implementation:
    • Develop and implement a strategic plan for university housing and hospitality services.
    • Lead the execution of strategies, including occupancy management, housing retention, and facilities management.
  • Leadership & Management:
    • Create a detailed operational plan for seamless student transitions into university housing.
    • Provide leadership, resources, and training for staff in programming, crisis intervention, and emergency response.
    • Collaborate with the Information Technology team to implement a housing software system.
  • Budget Management:
    • Manage a $10 million+ operations budget for University Housing Services.
    • Oversee $1.3 million in hospitality revenues.
    • Collaborate on financial plans and targets with the Associate Vice President (Student Affairs).
  • Community and Campus Relationships:
    • Work with University Communications and Marketing to develop marketing and communication strategies.
    • Manage software programs for Housing and Hospitality.
    • Coordinate services for evacuees during crises and collaborate with food service providers.
  • Asset Management:
    • Safeguard University equipment and assets associated with residences.
    • Oversee 1550 furnished bedrooms, $175 million in University buildings, and assets.
  • Human Resources:
    • Support recruitment and selection of Housing and Hospitality staff.
    • Manage a diverse team of professionals, CUPE members, and student staff.
    • Work on performance goals, development plans, and interventions as needed.
    • Responsible for on call schedules and processes.

Position Requirements
What You’ll Bring to the Position:
  • Bachelors degree with ten (10) years relevant University student housing experience, with preference for a Master’s degree in student development or a closely related field;
  • Five (5) years of experience in progressively higher levels of administrative and supervisory experience, or a Bachelor’s degree in business, education or humanities or related area with 8 years related experience;
  • Ten (10) years progressive management experience in a student-focused environment with a background highlighted by student development expertise, strategic human resource management, event management and/or ancillary operations.

Skills That Will Ensure Your Success in this Role:
  • Demonstrated experience developing, mentoring, and motivating a diverse professional team of staff.
  • Demonstrated experience building collaborative partnerships with faculty, administrators, students, parents/families, and campus partners.
  • Detail-oriented and self-motivated with ability to work independently, as a leader, and a collaborative member of a team.
  • Inclusive, diplomatic, detail-oriented, and articulate written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to implement problem solving strategies to manage everyday residential challenges such as crisis response, conflict management, community development, and student/family concerns in a fast-paced environment
  • Experience and familiarity with relevant software and knowledge to make recommendations on industry standard software designed for higher education management of residence from student applications to management of room selection to ability to provide regular financial updates and projections.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing financial plans, achieving budget, revenue targets and cost reduction targets, asset management and competency in financial reporting.
  • A record of applying continuous improvement and change management principles to support transitions to new programs and services while maintain positive morale and engagement.
  • Experience in collaborating with partners in the application of targeted marketing, marketing content and developing communication strategies to create product/service awareness, interest and motivation.

Salary Range $123,675 to $185,512 annually
Status Permanent
Work Hours
Typical hours of work are 8:15 – 4:30.

Must be available evening, weekends, and observed holidays for special events and emergencies.
On call required.
