Position Summary
The Department of Justice Studies is seeking applications to fill the Law Foundation of Saskatchewan Chair in Police Studies. This is a tenurable faculty position targeted to candidates at the senior Assistant or Associate Professor rank. The anticipated date of commencement is either January 1 2024 or July 1 2024.

The Department of Justice Studies is home to two distinct, but related programs – a Bachelor of Human Justice, and a Bachelor of Arts in Police Studies. Our department currently has approximately 280 undergraduate majors; 100 of these students are Police Studies majors. Faculty in the department draw upon multiple disciplines including anthropology, criminology, interdisciplinary studies, law, social work, and sociology in their instructional practices and research. Our courses reflect a broad understanding of justice that includes criminal, legal, social and restorative perspectives. The department has a longstanding social justice orientation. Position Requirements
The successful candidate will have a Ph.D. and a record of scholarly research and teaching excellence in a field related to policing. Candidates should be prepared to teach courses related to policing at all levels of our program and demonstrate the ability to work with diverse student populations. The position involves teaching two courses per year, research activities leading to both peer-reviewed publications and community outreach and collaboration, applications for external grants, and university service. Preference will be given to candidates with a demonstrated interest in racialization, indigenous justice and policing issues.

A demonstrated commitment to the three academic pillars of teaching, research and service excellence, along with strong communication skills and collegiality is required. As a member of our department, the successful candidate will be expected to actively participate in department, faculty, and university level service consistent with their appointed rank. Candidates are asked to identify their previous teaching experience, participation in service activities, and their current and future research interests. Familiarity with on-line/blended course development and delivery will be considered an asset. Experience working with Indigenous, ethnic, visible minority, and other diverse populations will reflect a well-rounded candidate for the position. Work experience with police service organizations is considered an asset.
