Position Summary
The Situm Group invites applications for a research assistant (RA) position starting April/May 2024. The successful candidate will work on interdisciplinary research projects related to nuclear waste management from small modular reactors. The projects are partly funded NRCan and will run for three years. The RA will also work within a larger team of researchers and will assist Dr. Situm in project management and financial documentation. The RA will work under the direct supervision of Dr. Arthur Situm in the Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science.

Key duties:
(1) Processing invoices and reimbursements
(2) Conduct research and publish papers with a focus on evaluating potential container materials/designs for intermediate level radioactive waste container materials and carrying out corrosion experiments on proposed intermediate level radioactive waste container materials
(3) Assisting with lab management duties
(4) Manage projects and budgets, provide oral and written updates to partners
(5) Assisting with project management and other related administrative duties (organization of events/webinars, etc.)

Position Requirements
Position Requirements (multiple openings, typically a 2-year contract, with the possibility of renewal):

(1) The candidate must have earned a BSc in chemistry or BEng in materials, industrial, or chemical engineering or a closely related discipline. A masters or PhD is an asset.
(2) Strong oral and written communication skills. Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of an interdisciplinary team.
(3) Experience in corrosion testing or electrochemicaty in an asset
(4) Experience in radioactive waste management is an asset
(5) Project management skills is an asset
(6) Financial management experience is an asset
