Position Summary | The El-Halfawy lab invites applications for a postdoctoral fellow position. The successful candidate will work on an interdisciplinary research project that aims to uncover novel biofilm-associated virulence factors and discover new solutions targeting bacterial wound infections. The project involves studying microbial virulence under infection-mimetic conditions in interdisciplinary studies using microbiology, biochemistry, molecular biology, chemical biology, and chemogenomics approaches. The drug discovery efforts will include screening synthetic small molecules and exploring natural products, including Indigenous remedies. More details on the areas of research interests of the lab can be found here: https://www.el-halfawylab.ca/our-research The El-Halfawy lab houses state-of-the-art robotic instrumentation allowing large-scale bacterial colony pinning, liquid handling, and high-throughput screening. Lab members have access to additional instrumentation at the University of Regina, such as next-generation sequencing platforms at the Institute for Microbial Systems and Society. The lab is well-funded through various Federal, Provincial, and Institutional operating grants. |
Position Requirements | Candidates with a Ph.D. in microbiology or related areas who have demonstrated superior academic achievement and research skills in their area of specialization, including peer-reviewed publications, are encouraged to apply. Postdoctoral fellows will receive ongoing mentorship and various professional development opportunities to help them achieve their full potential and future career goals. They are expected to engage in cutting-edge research leading to peer-reviewed publications and mentoring undergraduate researchers. |
